    Using Fresh Apples

It's fall season and apple season and you want to make the filling with fresh sweet apples? You can make your own apple pie filling using peeled apple chunks (4-5 apples), 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, ½ cup of granulated sugar, ¼ cup of packed brown sugar, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg, ¼ teaspoon salt, 2 tablespoons unsalted butter and 2 tablespoons cornstarch. Cook the filling on the stove until the apples are tender, but not mushy. This usually takes about 10-15 minutes.

    Tips

    • For a more pronounced cinnamon flavor, you can sprinkle some extra cinnamon on top of the apple pie filling before rolling up the cinnamon rolls.
    • Before baking, generously sprinkle brown sugar over the cinnamon roll cups filled with apple pie for an added bonus.
